What Is the Prognosis for Mesothelioma?

A prognosis is simply a doctor’s prediction of the course or outcome of a disease. A typical mesothelioma prognosis includes a life expectancy of 12 to 21 months. However, there are numerous survivors who have far outlived their prognosis. These survivors have taken advantage of aggressive treatments and clinical trials to conquer their disease. Factors that may influence a mesothelioma prognosis are the stage, type, location and treatment of the disease.

OSHA Silica Enforcement: Behind the Statistics

A review of nearly 120 citations issued since September 2017 under OSHA’s federal crystalline silica standard for construction reveals several emerging enforcement trends. “The most commonly cited provision concerns inadequate (or absent) air monitoring: 28 percent of all citations issued to date fell into this category,” explains ASSP Federal Representative Adele Abrams, Esq., CMSP. “This is significant, because exposure monitoring is the linchpin to all other aspects of regulatory compliance.”

Safety 2018 in the News: It’s Been a Year of Change

Safety 2018, our annual professional development conference and exposition held earlier this month in San Antonio, enthusiastically embraced the change inherent to the occupational safety and health profession. From introducing ourselves as the American Society of Safety Professionals to launching a new website with a new logo and color scheme, we celebrated the diversity and energy of ASSP members who dedicate their lives to keeping workers safe.
