North Alabama Chapter Takes a Field Trip

The North Alabama ASSP Chapter recently got the opportunity to meet in the field to view a rare construction project located in Huntsville, AL at the site of the new Aerojet Rocketdyne Manufacturing Facility.  This project involved a rare tilt up of a concrete wall exceeding 100,000 pounds.  The chapter would like to thank Joe Dawson, Area EH&S Manager for Turner Construction and Chapter President, for making this trip into the field happen.

ASSP Introduces Jennifer McNelly as New Executive Director

Jennifer McNelly will join ASSP as executive director on Aug. 16. McNelly has 30 years of association, government, regulatory and business experience, including leadership positions with 180 Skills LLC, The Manufacturing Institute and the U.S. Department of Labor Business Relations Group and Office of Regional Innovation and Transformation.

“Jennifer is a strong fit for ASSP and will help continue our growth,” says ASSP President Rixio Medina, CSP, ASP, CPP. “Her breadth of experience and proven success will be a key asset as we highlight the value of the profession, strengthen the Society’s position as a leading voice, and foster a collaborative culture of member engagement.” McNelly says it will be an honor to guide ASSP in executing its mission as a global occupational safety and health leader. “I look forward to working with ASSP’s volunteer membership, exceptional staff and dedicated Board of Directors to make a real difference for the profession and our members around the globe.”

 

McNelly replaces Dennis Hudson who is retiring after a distinguished career that includes two years as ASSP executive director and 11 years at the Society overall.

What Is the Prognosis for Mesothelioma?

A prognosis is simply a doctor’s prediction of the course or outcome of a disease. A typical mesothelioma prognosis includes a life expectancy of 12 to 21 months. However, there are numerous survivors who have far outlived their prognosis. These survivors have taken advantage of aggressive treatments and clinical trials to conquer their disease. Factors that may influence a mesothelioma prognosis are the stage, type, location and treatment of the disease.
